January was an above average temperature month, and below average snowfall and precipitation. The average temperature was 32 degrees, 2.8 degrees above normal. The maximum temperature was 53 degrees on January 17th and this is 1 degrees below normal. A minimum temperature of 9 degrees was recorded on the 31st and this is 6.6 degrees above normal. Daytime high temperatures averaged 39.84 degrees, 2.54 degrees above the norm. Evening temperatures averaged 24.1 degrees, 3.2 degrees above the norm. Evening temperatures of 32 degrees or below were recorded on 28 nights.
Precipitation totaled 2.5 inches. This is 1.57 inches below normal. We had measurable precipitation on 10 days; 2 of those days had less than 0.10 inches. The largest 24-hour rainfall was 0.9 inches from the 17th. We had a total of 8 inches of snowfall (4 inches more than January 2020), the long-term average snowfall for the month is 10.85 inches.
Sunshine averaged 47% of the possible sunshine hours. There were 7 days with no sunshine and 5 days with 90% or better sunshine. Total sunshine for January 2021 was 1 point above the long-term average for January and 2 points below sunshine hours recorded in January 2020.
