This summer I worked with Dave Bloniarz from the U.S. Forest Service and the Harvard Graduate School of Design on a research project called Linear Urban Forests in Springfield, Massachusetts. The project assumes that by 2070, the rise of autonomous electric vehicles will release large amounts of roadway that can be replaced with dense, native forests. This will drastically increase the climate resiliency of the city, lowering temperatures and reducing stormwater runoff. My role in this project was to help develop roadway cross sections for the different typologies in Springfield, as well as research plant communities, climate projections, and road technologies
