4-H Ambassadors from across the state participated in Massachusetts Agriculture Day at the State House. Agriculture Day (Ag Day), organized by the Massachusetts Promotional Board, the Federation of MA Farmers Markets and Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation, brings farmers and agricultural organizations together to showcase locally grown food and to educate legislators about issues affecting the agricultural community. 4-H Ambassadors teamed up with Massachusetts 4-H Foundation representatives and other 4-H volunteers to visit legislators to talk about their 4-H experiences. The MA 4-H Foundation is a private 501 c3 group that raises money and provides resources to the MA 4-H program.
4-H member Trevor Clapp represented 4-H youth from across the state and spoke to Department of Agricultural Resources Commissioner John Lebeaux and state officials, farmers and students attending Ag Day. Trevor was selected to represent 4-H members across the state at a competition held in March to select the 4-H Ag Day Speaker. Trevor's speech was titled, "Why 4-H is Necessary for Any Kid Interested in a Career in Agriculture." He stated, "I believe the success of tomorrow's agriculture is dependent on the youth of today if we are to sustain and improve the future of the agricultural industry." Trevor is a ten year member of the Cows in Clover 4-H club in Bristol County and serves as a 4-H Milk Ambassador.
