November 2016
It is with great pleasure that we’ve welcomed three experienced and accomplished members to the UMass Clean Energy Extension team: Chris Beebe, Lauren Mattison, and River Strong.
Chris is a graduate of UMass and joins CEE as a Research Engineer/Fellow. He is coordinating our Green Communities technical assistance efforts, authoring technical reports and reviews, conducting pre-feasibility assessments for our municipal and business clients, and supporting our Clean Energy Corps. Before joining the Clean Energy Extension, Chris was the Principal of BEAM Engineering, a Boston-based consulting firm specializing in delivering renewable energy technologies to market through project design, policy, and project implementation support. Having been active in the Massachusetts, California, and New York energy markets, Chris brings an extensive and diverse knowledge base to the energy markets in general, but clean energy technologies specifically. Chris is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), a LEED Accredited Professional, and an Association of Energy Engineers Certified Energy Manager (CEM). He received his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Lauren works with CEE as a Research Engineer/Fellow, based in the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department’s Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Her work with CEE includes providing technical assistance to cities and towns in the Green Communities program, developing in-depth energy project case studies, and leading UMass Amherst’s participation in the Green Your Bottom Line in Food and Beverage Businesses initiative, which provides support for Massachusetts food and beverage businesses to make energy and environmental improvements that can also reduce costs and improve operations. Lauren holds Bachelor’s and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts UMass Amherst. She has a decade of professional experience in energy efficiency and is a Certified Energy Manager through the Association of Energy Engineers.
River came aboard this summer as the Assistant Director of Market Development and is currently heading up our outreach activities, strategic partnerships, and research and development opportunities. River has more than 20 years of consulting and design experience in clean energy, business sustainability, greenhouse gas, and business development for public and private sector clients. He brings to CEE a combination of engineering capabilities, communications skills, and entrepreneurial experience as we expand our activities and develop proactive strategies to serve the Commonwealth’s clean market sectors. River received a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Colorado State University and an MFA in creative writing from University of Arizona. He is a relatively recent arrival in Massachusetts from Burlington, Vermont.
We’re excited and grateful that Chris, Lauren, and River have joined the team and wish them the best in their new roles. View full bios and contact information
